Slide Systems Solves It: Real Design Fixes for Real Irish Homes

Every home has its quirks. Uneven floors, awkward corners, sloped ceilings, wall sockets in the wrong place — we’ve seen it all. These things can throw off even the best-looking design. But that’s where we come in.

At Slide Systems, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all. We believe in making furniture that fits properly, works smoothly, and looks like it was always meant to be there. Here are a few real-world examples of how we solved tricky problems for clients across Cork — no drama, just smart design.

A Kitchen That Works Hard and Looks Good

This homeowner in Little Island wanted a modern upgrade, but not something cold or impersonal. They asked for a unit that looked sharp, showed off their glassware, and made room for a built-in coffee machine — all without cluttering the space.

The challenge? Fitting all that into a tight kitchen wall while keeping it visually light. We handcrafted a sleek grey cabinet with glass doors and integrated LED lighting. It’s stylish without being showy. It also solves a common issue: how to blend everyday function with high-end design.

The coffee machine space was custom-built to the client’s exact model, with the back panel reinforced for support and cable access. Nothing off-the-shelf would’ve done the job.

Now, their kitchen isn’t just better looking — it’s better used.

Retail Fit-Out: From Basic to Brilliant

When a local business came to us with a request to update their retail showroom, the brief was simple: make it modern, organised, and on-brand. The space was long and narrow, with tricky lighting and very little natural flow.

The solution? Purpose-built displays with clean sight lines, integrated lighting, and varied storage depths. Each unit was designed to give staff easy access while keeping everything tidy for customers. We included glass shelves and angled panels for visual interest without adding bulk.

The result is a showroom that doesn’t just show products — it showcases the brand. The transformation speaks for itself.

The Classic: Uneven Floors, Perfect Finish

Uneven floors are one of the most common issues in Irish homes — especially older ones. One client had a floor that sloped just enough to throw everything off, but not enough to be obvious at first glance. A sliding wardrobe installed on that would’ve meant jammed doors and visible gaps. Not ideal.

Our team used precision levelling feet and shims to build a dead-level base. We then adjusted the track system accordingly, making sure the doors glided smoothly and sat flush. It took a bit of time to get right, but it always does when the details matter.

Now, the wardrobe looks like it’s floating perfectly in place. No leaning. No rattling. No sticking.

Sockets, Skirting, and “That Wall We Didn’t Expect”

You know how it goes. Everything’s going to plan… until it isn’t. One client wanted a full-width wardrobe in a room with a mid-wall socket exactly where the track needed to go. Classic.

Instead of shifting the whole design, we used a recessed back panel with internal cable access, letting the socket remain functional while hiding it from sight. Clean outside, clever inside.

Another project had a heavy, deep skirting board that meant standard wardrobe units wouldn’t sit flush. We designed custom liners to lift the carcass forward just enough — keeping everything looking seamless without needing to rip out half the room.

Sometimes the fix is hidden. That’s how you know it’s done right.

Real Homes, Real Solutions

No two projects are the same. That’s why off-the-shelf furniture so often misses the mark. What works in a showhome might not work in a Victorian semi or a tight new-build.

At Slide Systems, we design with your home in mind — not some hypothetical blueprint. Whether it’s a sleek kitchen display, a custom showroom, or a sloped-floor wardrobe install, we’ll make it work. And it’ll look like it was meant to be there from day one.
